Seduce your partner by taking an erotic approach to the whole meal.
Start with romantic music, candles and fresh flowers. Make sure
you have plenty of time to relax and enjoy each other. Serve foods
you can eat with your fingers, like shrimp cocktail. Oysters can
be a very seductive food. And rumor has it that truffles have an
aphrodisiac effect. Serve fresh strawberries, cherries and peaches.
Feed each other. Enjoy a little wine, but take it easy. Too much
wine can reduce sexual drive. A meal like this can jump start things,
but disinterest in sex can have deep roots. If it continues you
should consult a physician.
My
family doesn't eat, we vacuum our meals. How would you suggest we
slow down?
There
is a classic meditation exercise that involves eating a single raisin.
The objective is to experience the raisin fully, first enjoying
its texture with your tongue, then gradually chewing it and realizing
the full bouquet and complexities of its flavor. Naturally, the
goal isn't to eat an entire meal like that, but the exercise teaches
you to slow down and really appreciate food and all the sensory
properties it offers. Try this exercise with your family and encourage
them to take what they learn to the table with them. Also, take
a moment prior to digging in to give thanks for the meal and the
company at the table. This mindful approach can be a more positive
way to slow down your family, rather than enforcing a militaristic
"chew each bite 40 times" rule.
Recently my breath has been horrible. I am afraid to date anyone
for fear of turning them off. Is this caused by my diet or should
I be concerned about my insides?
Chronic bad breath usually signals an infection. Consult with your
dentist to check for any gum disease or tooth decay, and have your
physician rule out diabetes, ulcers, and sinus or lung infection.
Extremely low-carbohydrate diets and going long periods without
eating can also generate bad breath. So be sure to eat regular,
balanced meals.
Do men really like women as skinny as Ally McBeal? I mean really?
It is depressing. Could there be a trend away from the anorexic
look?
Some men probably like women as thin as Ally. But so what? There
are plenty of men who like women with a little, or a lot, more meat
on their bones. When asked why he prefers voluptuous women one man
I know said “the bone is for the dog, the meat is for the man.”
A little crass maybe, but the point is there is someone for everyone.
Don’t let Hollywood or fashion magazines lead you to believe that
thin equals sexy, because it doesn’t. Most of being sexy and appealing
is feeling sexy and appealing. So take all that energy you are spending
bumming out and put it toward being your own beautiful self.
My new boyfriend is macrobiotic and wants
me to join him. What is it and why should I?
The macrobiotic diet is a vegetarian diet based on the Asian principals
of yin and yang, the opposing yet complimentary forces that guide
the universe. According to this philosophy, every food has either
yin (hot) energy or yang (cold) energy, and the foods a person eats
should be in harmony with the climate in which they live.
The basic macrobiotic diet is based on whole grains, vegetables,
beans and soups. Some fish, nuts and seasonal fruits are allowed.
If followed correctly, this diet can be extremely healthful. It
is also very environmentally friendly, since it focuses on local,
organic foods. The problem I have with this diet is that it is very
difficult to maintain and can be socially isolating. Preparing macrobiotic
foods can be very time consuming. And, it is nearly impossible to
enjoy a meal out with your college buddies or your family if they
are not macrobiotic too. These social links are important to your
overall well being, so carefully consider that before committing
to this diet fully. In the meantime do enjoy the occasional macrobiotic
meal with your boyfriend--the food is delicious and healthful!
I’m getting married in a few weeks and want to lose as much weight
as possible without starving myself. What is the healthiest way
to do this?
I
recommend keeping a food diary for a few days to help you assess
where your diet could use improvement. Pick three or four specific
behaviors to change. For example, if you tend to munch on snack
foods, switch to fruit as a snack. If you are overdoing the breadbasket
at dinner, avoid bread before the meal. If you are eating a lot
of high-fat meats and cheeses, replace them with fish, chicken breast
and vegetables. Maintain the food diary for the next few weeks to
help you stay on track.
Also, make sure you eat regular meals. With the hectic pace of
wedding preparation, many brides-to-be skip meals, which inevitably
leads to impulsive, unhealthy choices and overeating later. These
changes should help you shed some excess weight, while keeping you
healthy for your big day.
