Love's #1 Rule
According to best-selling author Cherie Carter-Scott,
the strongest relationships are built on self-love

By Christine Shen

Love Oneself

The Rule of Self-Love
During the mad rush of infatuation that electrifies a new relationship, a crucial factor that could determine if the new love sinks or swims often gets little or no attention: your self. For those searching for their "other half" and whose romantic relationships continually fizzle out, it’s easy to repeat the same patterns of failure in future relationships if they base their expectations on the object of their desires, not on themselves.

They don’t realize that "only you can make yourself complete," says personal growth coach and best-selling author Dr. Cherie Carter-Scott. That is why she emphasizes the rule "You must love yourself first" in her book "If Love is a Game, These are the Rules," which explains how to build substantive love relationships using 10 simple principles.

"You must learn to focus on yourself first because your relationship with yourself is the foundation for all your other relationships," says Carter-Scott.

Cherie Carter-ScottChérie Carter-Scott, Ph.D. has successfully providing personal growth coaching for over 25 years. Her company, Motivation Management Service Institute, Inc.(MMS), has worked millions of people worldwide and with Fortune 500 companies such as American Express, IBM, and Better Homes and Gardens Magazine. She holds a Ph.D. in organizational development and organizational systems from The Fielding Institute in Santa Barbara.

Her books include: "Negaholics: How to Recover from Your Addiction to Negativity and Turn Your Life Around," the "New York Times" best-seller "If Life is a Game, These are the Rules: Ten Rules for Being Human," and the upcoming "If Success is a Game, These are the Rules: Ten Rules for a Fulfilling Career and Life."

Her next book will be "Chicken Soup for the Global Soul," co-authored with Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen and released in 2001.
