By Steve
and Cathy Brody*
At midlife you need the courage to stand by your needs and desires.
Participating passively in sexual positions and experiments breeds
resentment and creates distance between you and your partner.
That was the problem for Debra. Debra's lack of courage was the
chief reason she had turned off sexually in an otherwise successful
eighteen-year marriage with her husband Darrell. He was also frustrated
by her passive compliance, for although he didn't understand why
she was resentful, he nonetheless felt her distance in bed.
When Debra found her courage, their sexual relationship improved,
especially after she voiced her need for more foreplay. As Darrell
backed off on frequency and picked up his foreplay, he and Debra
gradually rekindled their sexual relationship at midlife.
